Defining Domains in ArgoSoft

One of the major attractions of ArgoSoft Pro over other, more expensive, email servers was the simplicity of adding multiple domain names. Other servers make this process difficult and expensive - in ArgoSoft Pro it is neither.

Why would you want to add domain names to ArgoSoft Pro? Well, we have a domain (internet-tips.net) which is our main web site and another (survivingasthma.com) which is my wife's site. Each of these needs to send and receive email. Thus, we need to set up accounts on each domain. ArgoSoft Pro's multiple domain feature makes this simple.

To add, modify or delete domains, enter administration mode. Then choose "Configuration" from the "Tools" menu. If you want to modify a domain, then select it from the list, right click on the name and select "properties". If you want to add a new domain, click the page icon and select "New Domain" (as shown in the image below).

New domain

Once you've got the "Domain and Aliases" box open, you can enter or correct the information as needed.

A feature that makes ArgoSoft Pro very useful for me is Aliases. This allows you to define additional domain names which are treated exactly the same as the primary domain name. This is shown in the example below. As you can see, the primary domains is "Internet-tips.net", and a number of aliases have been defined. This was a useful way for me to receive email on a number of different domain names without having to create separate users for each one.

Adding a domain

An alias is simply another domain name which "points to" the primary domain name. The alias uses the same users, has the same password and has exactly the same other information (including autoresponders).

In the Pro version, you can define as many domains as you need. Our email server has over 200 of them defined, each with a number of accounts.
